Every piece begins as a line. The rest is pressure, patience and the decision to stop at exactly the right moment.
Paper is quiet until it isn't. A narrow strip, soft to the touch, holds the memory of the tree and the maker. When we roll it, we are not rushing it into shape; we are persuading it, a fraction at a time.
The coil is where it all starts — a circle that holds tension without breaking. Too little pressure and it loosens. Too much and it buckles. The right amount, and it becomes light, strong and endlessly repeatable.
That repeatability is the whole craft. A pendant might carry a hundred and forty coils, and every one of them has to hold the same tension as the last, or the piece reads as uneven from across a room. It is the least glamorous part of the work and the part that takes years.
People assume the difficulty is in the design. It isn't. The design arrives quickly, usually on paper, usually late at night. The difficulty is in the four hundredth coil of a Tuesday afternoon, when your fingers are tired and the piece will still be judged by whether that one matches the first.
The design arrives in an evening. The consistency takes four years.
